This photo shows the Atlas Ocean Racing sailboat during the Transat Quebec Saint-Malo as it passes near Île d’Orléans near Quebec City. Skipper Gilles Barbot is a French Canadian of Breton origin who now lives in Montreal. All crew members are Canadian.
Curious onlookers set up here and there along the south shore of Île d’Orléans to watch the sailboats that left Quebec City an hour ago.
Off Île d’Orléans, lenticular clouds and a small rotor cloud are visible. They are formed by strong wind aloft that is crossing the mountain range north of the St. Lawrence River.

Und wie immer tolle Bilder: Segelboote vor Dickschiffen auf dem Lorenz – und das Chateau Frontenac im Hintergrund – mehr geht nicht.
Und dann noch ein Schiff der traditionsreichen Holland-America-Linie (im letzten Jahr ist die HAL 150 Jahre alt geworden) – bevor die HAL von Carnival geschluckt wurde, war sie als “the spotles fleet” bekannt.

Die Sommeraktivitäten in Québec City nehmen kein Ende. Zurzeit findet das Sommerfestival von Québec City statt, bei dem bis zum 14. Juli jeden Abend Zehntausende Menschen auf den Plaines d’Abraham und in der Stadt auftreten. Außerdem findet seit vier Tagen im Hafen ein Marinetreffen statt, bei dem vier Kriegsschiffe anlegen: ein französisches, ein amerikanisches, ein britisches und ein kanadisches. Es ist sehr voll.
